Clatskanie Skatepark

Clatskanie Skatepark (346 NE 5th St, Clatskanie, OR 97016) in Clatskanie OR which is about an hour from Portland OR and is one of my FAVORITE parks, I seriously love this park! And It’s COVERED! So, if you are looking for a spot to hit on a rainy day here ya go. The park ramps are all wood with a top layer of Skatelite which is super-fast and smooth. The only drawback with the Skatelite is that it is pretty slick if your riding hard wheels and if you eat it the surface tends to just flay off the first layer of skin. Other than those two caveats it’s a great surface to ride on especially if you’re of the age group that I currently reside in as it’s easier to slide out, and less impact if you eat it from a height, (argh I hate being old). The parks street section that has a good number of obstacles; Hips, quarter-pipes that vary in height, rails, a nice metal round rail, a pyramid table top with a small transition at the top, and ledges and some other transitions throughout that section of the park. The Star of the show (park) and the reason I have driven an hour multiple times are the half-pipe’s section of the park. The pipes consist of a 4ft or 5ft mini ramp about 12ft wide and is spined and has a humped/rounded role-in that connects to the larger of the two ramps. On the other side of the mini is the large pipe, about 25ft or 30ft wide and it’s spined to the mini. On the spined side of the ramp its transition is about 8ft tall, that connects to the taller part of the ramp that is about 10ft with a role-in in the center of the pipe. On the other side of the half-pipe you have a 10ft section, that drops to an 8ft section, then goes back up to about an 8.5ft/9ft section that on the face of that transition is curved. If you drop in on the mini, take the humped/rounded role-in over to the larger pipe this transition will kick you up to the top with a good amount of speed, it’s pretty fun… I have to seriously congratulate Clatskanie Parks and Recreation District for building and maintaining this park. Every time I have been there, (which is a fair amount in the past few months since starting this blog) the park is in PRISTINE shape. Seriously you guys do a great job!!! I really wish we had something like this spot in Portland.

P.s. the hottie on the pipe is my girlfriend/videographer who is learning to quad skate in parks and is going to be the next big roller skating star!

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park (House Park)

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park also know by the locals as House Park is located in Auston Texas at 1213 Shoal Creek Blvd, Austin, TX 78701 . That’s right Kids I have official ventured outside of the Northwest to check out some other parks. Ok not really but we where in the area and had to check out some parks as part of our trip. The park is pretty fun and consists of a fairly big street section that I actually did not hit up but there is a nice long quarter pipe that’s about 4ft tall in the street part that’s kind of fun and a really fun big bowl section that I spent most of my time skating. After talking to some of the locals I guess the bowl was designed for the BMX’ers as there is a huge bike scene in Austin, but it skates really well. Anyways It ranges in size from about 6ft to up about 10ft at a nice half bowl with some oververt carve section and the entire bowl has a nice flow to it with the concrete and coping being in pretty good shape for its age. if you are in A...

SkateParks

Portland Oregon (and its surrounding areas) is surprisingly a great skateboarding town, PDX “is the first city in the world to have a comprehensive master plan for skateboard park development. SPS conceived of and advocated for a Skatepark System Plan in 2001. It was adopted by Portland Parks & Recreation's skatepark advisory committee and carefully applied to existing park sites over a 24-month planning and public input period, and ultimately supported and passed by Portland’s five elected officials, its city council on August 3, 2005” 1 City council supported and passed a plan for the creation of 19 parks in Aug 2005, But since then more have been supported and built in Portland and the surrounding metro areas. I have found over 100+ parks within 200 miles of Downtown Portland OR, where the majority of them are located, the furthest South West being in Reedsport OR, furthest North in Brier WA, And the furthest East in Ellensburg WA. A few of them are indoors private pay to s...

Kʰunamokwst Skatepark AKA Alberta Skate Spot

Kʰunamokwst  Skatepark (Alberta Skate Spot ) located at 5200 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97218 is an interesting park. Built by Evergreen Skateparks in 2015. it’s a little park at 2000 sq.   ft.  with some very interesting lines. Its basically kind of a flow bowl that ranges in depth from about 5ft to as small as 1ft transitions mostly coped in standard coping with some concrete lips at some of the taller transitions. The first time I hit this park up I was not a fan as I couldn’t really figure it out as each transition kicks you out to the next one in a strange way but after hitting it again this park can be pretty fun if you just flow from obstacle to obstacle; you end up carving frontside to backside to grinds and flowing throughout the entire 2000 sq.  ft. Since  Kʰunamokwst  is so small and the way the park flows its hard to get a clean line if there are more than a few people there, and unfortunately this park is always swamped with pre-teens and sc...
