Newberg Skatepark

Newberg Skatepark (1201 S. Blaine Street Newberg, OR. 97132) is about an hour SW of Portland. Built in 2000 by Dreamland Skateparks this 29,000 sq. ft. park is a pretty cool spot with a variety of stuff to hit throughout this sprawling park. Going from the left to right when entering you first encounter a round transition that comes to a flattened round point that at one point spun, continuing left you encounter a long 4/5ft offset 2 kidney shaped bowl that is super fun with great lines. At the far end of this bowl is a role in from a higher 5ft kidney shaped half bowl that ls pretty challenging from a goofy rider’s perspective but is really fun. To the left of the first bowl is a doubled hump with a 4ft handrail that spans the humps that leads up to the higher 5ft kidney shaped half bowl. This section is personally my favorite as I was able to create some really fun lines incorporating all aspects of that section of the park.

At the back of the park, next to the 5ft kidney bowl is the big section of this park, and it’s pretty big, 14ft “L” shaped half bowl that leads to the back wall of the park that is also 14ft give or take that leads to the flat before you encounter 5/6ft rounded hump with a 5/6ft table top with a ledge rail on the left that leads to a 6ft transitions on the left and on the right a 6ft tall rounded mound that is bordered by transitions varying in heights from the other obstacles of the park, This leads to a mostly 6ft bowl with transitions that go up to about 9ft that is really fun and has some interesting transitions throughout.

From this point you are basically at the entrance of the park, this section consists basically of flat bordered by transitions in varying heights with various obstacles throughout. One of the things I liked about Newberg is that you can connect lines from the various obstacles and basically create a line that runs the length of the park. For the most part all of the copping and concrete was in surprisingly good shape for being 21 years old, but you will come across some sections of concrete breaking away from some of the copping, but I did not hang up on anything. Additionally, the concrete is fairly smooth throughout, but as I ride Bones 104b’s, I was working a bit harder to pump to keep up speed so a bit softer wheels next time I hit up.

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park (House Park)

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park also know by the locals as House Park is located in Auston Texas at 1213 Shoal Creek Blvd, Austin, TX 78701 . That’s right Kids I have official ventured outside of the Northwest to check out some other parks. Ok not really but we where in the area and had to check out some parks as part of our trip. The park is pretty fun and consists of a fairly big street section that I actually did not hit up but there is a nice long quarter pipe that’s about 4ft tall in the street part that’s kind of fun and a really fun big bowl section that I spent most of my time skating. After talking to some of the locals I guess the bowl was designed for the BMX’ers as there is a huge bike scene in Austin, but it skates really well. Anyways It ranges in size from about 6ft to up about 10ft at a nice half bowl with some oververt carve section and the entire bowl has a nice flow to it with the concrete and coping being in pretty good shape for its age. if you are in A...

SkateParks

Portland Oregon (and its surrounding areas) is surprisingly a great skateboarding town, PDX “is the first city in the world to have a comprehensive master plan for skateboard park development. SPS conceived of and advocated for a Skatepark System Plan in 2001. It was adopted by Portland Parks & Recreation's skatepark advisory committee and carefully applied to existing park sites over a 24-month planning and public input period, and ultimately supported and passed by Portland’s five elected officials, its city council on August 3, 2005” 1 City council supported and passed a plan for the creation of 19 parks in Aug 2005, But since then more have been supported and built in Portland and the surrounding metro areas. I have found over 100+ parks within 200 miles of Downtown Portland OR, where the majority of them are located, the furthest South West being in Reedsport OR, furthest North in Brier WA, And the furthest East in Ellensburg WA. A few of them are indoors private pay to s...

Kʰunamokwst Skatepark AKA Alberta Skate Spot

Kʰunamokwst  Skatepark (Alberta Skate Spot ) located at 5200 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97218 is an interesting park. Built by Evergreen Skateparks in 2015. it’s a little park at 2000 sq.   ft.  with some very interesting lines. Its basically kind of a flow bowl that ranges in depth from about 5ft to as small as 1ft transitions mostly coped in standard coping with some concrete lips at some of the taller transitions. The first time I hit this park up I was not a fan as I couldn’t really figure it out as each transition kicks you out to the next one in a strange way but after hitting it again this park can be pretty fun if you just flow from obstacle to obstacle; you end up carving frontside to backside to grinds and flowing throughout the entire 2000 sq.  ft. Since  Kʰunamokwst  is so small and the way the park flows its hard to get a clean line if there are more than a few people there, and unfortunately this park is always swamped with pre-teens and sc...
