Tigard Skatepark, AKA JIM GRIFFITH Memorial Skatepark ( 13037 SW Beaverton-Tualatin Hwy, Tigard, OR 97223 ) is located in Tigard OR, about 30mins outside downtown Portland and is a monster of a park even if you disregard the T-Rex guarding the street section of this behemoth concrete jungle. Built by Dreamland Skateparks the concrete is in real good shape but not to slidable if you eat it, so try to run out if your sporting pads. The park is 15,000 sq ft. and is massive in my opinion, seriously I’m going to probably forget to mention something about this park. The street section has a ton of flat with a lazy Susan/turntable off center in the flat area, at one point it turned but when I was there it seemed to be sealed up. To enter this area, you role-in down the 6ft to 7ft transitions that lead down to the flats, on the back wall of the street section the transitions range from 6ft to what I think is about a 12ft wall. To the right if facing the big walls, you have a 4ft steep transitions that goes from concrete to brick that jut out to make a tabletop. To the left of the big walls you have a 6ft’sh transition that kicks up to a 2ft or 3ft flat wall. Additionally, on that side you have a double hump role-in with a long flat handrail in the center with a shorter one to the right. This area has some interesting transitions and curves going on in there and on the back end of the street section. Next to the role-in transitions you have another monster wall that I think is about 12ft tall. In the center of the park you have an incredibly fun oval bowl that has about 4ft transitions throughout the bowl, this little bowl is rather fun if you’re into just carving and grinds. The little bowl is spined the entire length on one side to the big bowl. The big bowl is massive and has various transitions that range from 6ft to about 11ft at the tallest. The big bowl on the back end is spined to the little bowl and is about 6ft deep, this leads down to the bigger section that has a rounded bump a bit off center in flat of the bowl. The transitions in this area range from a 5ft with copping that has an additional 2ft area above it with more copping that is curved and goes to the top of the bowl, to a monster 11ft’er back down to around 6ft overall throughout the entirety of the bowl. All around this park is real fun even with my limited skill set currently, I have seen some footage of people much better than me doing some crazy big shit on the big walls, I'll need to hit it up again when I get some bigger balls and better skills.
Portland Oregon (and its surrounding areas) is surprisingly a great skateboarding town, PDX “is the first city in the world to have a comprehensive master plan for skateboard park development. SPS conceived of and advocated for a Skatepark System Plan in 2001. It was adopted by Portland Parks & Recreation's skatepark advisory committee and carefully applied to existing park sites over a 24-month planning and public input period, and ultimately supported and passed by Portland’s five elected officials, its city council on August 3, 2005” 1 City council supported and passed a plan for the creation of 19 parks in Aug 2005, But since then more have been supported and built in Portland and the surrounding metro areas. I have found over 100+ parks within 200 miles of Downtown Portland OR, where the majority of them are located, the furthest South West being in Reedsport OR, furthest North in Brier WA, And the furthest East in Ellensburg WA. A few of them are indoors private pay to s
