Sherwood skatepark

Sherwood skatepark (23000 SW Pacific Hwy, Sherwood, OR 97140) In Sherwood OR is about 45 mins South West of Portland OR. This Park built by Dreamland Skateparks is rather big at 12,500 sq ft and has a variety of thigs to hit within it so try to stay with me on my rambling description. Firstly, the concrete is in great shape, exceptionally smooth extremely fast and a little slick. It wasn’t too bad but I’m riding relatively soft wheels; Powell Peralta SS G-Slides 85a’s so normally I’m sticking to the walls on the transitions not sliding out but it was rather cold the day I went so that might have had something to do with it. Anyway, with that said let’s get into the park shall we; The entire park has a slight slope down to the back of the park where the big bowl is. At the top entrance of the park it starts with a sort of kidney shape transitions that average about 5ft, this leads to an area of flat that has a triangle grind to the right and to the left you find a wall transition with rounded sides with a cutout in the center that’s about 6ft tall with pool copping at the top. That section continues down with a flat transition section about 4ft that has another area of flats behind it to the right with a humped round to the left directly behind the transitioned wall. Directly after that section, the park continues downward in its slope where there is a 4ft or 5ft inclined transition that has a big flat area with a handrail in the center and to the left you have a 1ft little halfpipe. To the far right you have 5ft to 6ft halfpipe that is feed directly and at the same depth from the previous flat section after the start of the park. Directly after the flats with the little halfpipe and handrail the park continues with a 4ft or 5ft declined transition that leads to a flat area and connects to the exit of the bigger halfpipe which leads to a 8ft transition to the right with a big role-in in the center with a flat 8ft transition on the left. That role-in leads up to the big kidney shaped bowl that has about a 9ft or 10ft transition at its tallest on the back wall going down to about 6ft or 7ft on the smaller sections of the bowl. The entire bowl has a nice pool copping that is in great shape. The big role-in which is rounded and humped in the center is about 8ft and leads directly to each side of the kidneys and the back transition. The entirety of the park basically has transitions on all the side walls until you enter the big bowl area making the whole place like on big bowl.  The park is fun but a bit awkward, the design seems a bit more advantageous for scooter kids than skateboarders but that could just be my limited skill set currently. Since the park has this downward slope throughout, I found getting clean lines a bit difficult but again that could have more to do with ME than the park itself. I also found that while heading down the park speed was not a problem but getting back up to the entrance involved a lot of pumping up and down that first big flat section which I found limiting to get 5-O’s at the top. I didn’t hit up the big bowl as I ate it pretty hard earlier that morning at a different park, so I was a bit intimidated by the role-in and the jutted-out pool copping… I know, don’t be a chicken and man up right! With that excuse said, I have to say the big bowl looks super fun and I’ll have to go back and hit it up. And finally, you might be asking yourself where is your progression video? (who am I kidding no one is reading this… LOL) Well I was flying solo the day I visited so there was no one to film me doing nothing impressive so you will just have to check back later and see if I still suck or not.

SkateParks

Portland Oregon (and its surrounding areas) is surprisingly a great skateboarding town, PDX “is the first city in the world to have a comprehensive master plan for skateboard park development. SPS conceived of and advocated for a Skatepark System Plan in 2001. It was adopted by Portland Parks & Recreation's skatepark advisory committee and carefully applied to existing park sites over a 24-month planning and public input period, and ultimately supported and passed by Portland’s five elected officials, its city council on August 3, 2005” 1 City council supported and passed a plan for the creation of 19 parks in Aug 2005, But since then more have been supported and built in Portland and the surrounding metro areas. I have found over 100+ parks within 200 miles of Downtown Portland OR, where the majority of them are located, the furthest South West being in Reedsport OR, furthest North in Brier WA, And the furthest East in Ellensburg WA. A few of them are indoors private pay to s

Glenhaven Skatepark

Glenhaven Skatepark located at 2831 NE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97220 was designed and built by Dreamland Skateparks in 2007 and is a fun park that is fairly big at 11,000 Sq Ft. The Park has a street course with a ton of stuff to hit, a quarter pipe a sloped transition that leads down to some handrails, a stair gap, a euro gap, ledges with angle iron, a flat kinked rail, some fun boxes, a sloped brick transition all enclosed within a 4ft-ish quarter pipe transition. The park also has two bowls, a kidney shaped pool that goes about from a 4ft to about 10ft deep with pool coping and a fun 6ft bowl with standard coping that has an extension and some interesting lines to hit. I like this park a lot, the street section can get a bit busy, but the bowls have always been pretty mellow every time I hit the park so its worth checking out.

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park (House Park)

Heath Eiland and Morgan Moss BMX Skate Park also know by the locals as House Park is located in Auston Texas at 1213 Shoal Creek Blvd, Austin, TX 78701 . That’s right Kids I have official ventured outside of the Northwest to check out some other parks. Ok not really but we where in the area and had to check out some parks as part of our trip. The park is pretty fun and consists of a fairly big street section that I actually did not hit up but there is a nice long quarter pipe that’s about 4ft tall in the street part that’s kind of fun and a really fun big bowl section that I spent most of my time skating. After talking to some of the locals I guess the bowl was designed for the BMX’ers as there is a huge bike scene in Austin, but it skates really well. Anyways It ranges in size from about 6ft to up about 10ft at a nice half bowl with some oververt carve section and the entire bowl has a nice flow to it with the concrete and coping being in pretty good shape for its age. if you are in A
